What changed

Until now, scanning a barcode Tracktile didn't recognise left you stuck: the scan didn't resolve to anything, and getting it to work meant sorting the product out separately before you could carry on receiving.

Two things are different now.

You can link an unknown barcode to a catalog item at the moment you scan it. No separate trip into the catalog, no waiting.

A product can have as many barcodes as it needs. Previously one product meant one barcode, which broke down as soon as two suppliers labelled the same thing differently. If beef bones arrive under fifteen different barcodes depending on the supplier, all fifteen can point at your one beef bones catalog item.

How it works day to day

1. Scan the barcode on receive as usual.
2. If Tracktile doesn't recognise it, you'll be offered the option to link it to a catalog item.
3. Choose the catalog item it belongs to.
4. Carry on receiving.

From then on, that barcode resolves to that catalog item automatically — for you and for everyone else at your facility. Nobody has to link it a second time.

What this means in practice

Your barcode list builds itself. Rather than setting up every supplier's barcode in advance, your team maps them as they come across them. The first delivery from a new supplier takes a few extra seconds; every one after that doesn't.

New suppliers stop being a receiving problem. A supplier switching their packaging or their barcodes used to mean a blocked receive. Now it means one link, made by the person holding the scanner.

Nothing changes for barcodes you already have. Existing mappings keep working exactly as they do today.

Worth knowing before you start

Link carefully the first time. Because the mapping applies to everyone, a barcode linked to the wrong catalog item will resolve wrongly for the whole facility until it's corrected. It is worth telling your receiving team to check the item name before confirming, especially where you carry several grades or sizes of the same product.

There is nothing to switch on. This is available to everyone now, and works with your existing scanners and receiving process.
