Implementing Categorization for Inventory Management
Categorization provides an organized approach to handling and grading items based on their quality, type, or any other criteria relevant to your operations. Here’s how you can add subcategories to your Catalog items and categorize them effectively.
Adding Subcategories to Catalog Items
- Navigate to the Catalog Page: Start by accessing your Catalog where all items are listed.
- Select an Item: Choose the item you want to assign subcategories to and click to view its details.
- Add Subcategories: Scroll down to the “Sub Categories” section and click “Add Sub Category.” Here, you can name your subcategory and, if needed, provide a brief description.
With your subcategories in place, you’re set to classify items in your inventory according to these new categories.
Categorizing an Item
Taking the example of Lobsters as an ingredient received from a supplier, you can grade it as soon as it enters your system.
Select the Item on the Floor Page: Find the item you wish to categorize. If it has subcategories created, a “Categorize” button will be visible.
Begin Categorization: Click the “Categorize” button to start sorting the item into the predetermined subcategories.Categorization Screen: You’ll see the categories you’ve previously set up, along with a Waste option. Enter the quantity from the scale and click “Assign” to categorize.
Complete the Process: Once you’ve assigned quantities to categories, finalize the process by clicking “Categorize.” The system updates the Floor page with the new categorized records, removing the initial undivided item if it’s fully categorized.
Flexible Categorization
💡You don’t have to categorize the entire amount at once. It's possible to categorize partially and return to sort the remainder later, providing flexibility in how you manage and utilize your inventory.
Categorization is a powerful tool for refining your inventory management strategy, allowing for more precise control over the quality and classification of items within your facility. By setting up and utilizing subcategories, you can ensure that each item is correctly sorted and accounted for, enhancing the overall efficiency of your inventory management practices.
