Draft Make Product
Prepare Production Runs in Advance with Draft Mode
We're excited to introduce Draft Make Product — a powerful new way to manage complex production runs with more flexibility and control. Whether you're running multiple mixers in parallel, preparing batch production in advance, or need time to gather ingredients before finalizing, Draft Mode has you covered.
What is Draft Make Product?
Draft Make Product allows you to start a production run, save it as a draft, and come back to finalize it later. No more losing your work if you need to step away or switch to another task.
Perfect for:
- Multi-day productions — Start production today, finalize tomorrow
- Parallel equipment — Manage multiple mixers or production lines simultaneously
- Batch preparation — Set up multiple production runs in advance
- Complex recipes — Take your time selecting sources without pressure
- Review workflows — Save drafts for supervisor approval before finalizing
Getting Started
Creating a Draft
- Navigate to Make Product
- Select your recipe
- Choose your sources and enter quantities
- Click Save Draft instead of completing production
Your work is now saved and you can return to it anytime.
Managing Multiple Drafts
Need to run the same recipe on multiple mixers or production lines? Create up to 5 drafts per recipe.
- Open a recipe that already has a draft
- Click New Draft to create an additional draft
- Each draft operates independently with its own source selections
Renaming Drafts:
By default, drafts are named "Draft 1", "Draft 2", etc. You can rename them for easier identification:
- Click the pencil icon next to the draft name
- Enter a custom name (e.g., "Mixer 1", "Morning Batch", "Line A")
- Press Enter to save
Inventory Reservations
Draft Mode includes a local reservation system to help you manage multiple drafts without over-allocating the same inventory on your device.
⚠️ Important: Reservations are local, not system-wide
Reservations exist only on your current device. They are not hard locks on inventory — other users on different devices won't see your reservations, and your actual on-hand inventory remains unchanged until production is completed.
How It Works
- When you save a draft: Source quantities (Use + Waste) are tracked locally
- When you delete a draft: Those quantities become available again for your other drafts
- When you complete a draft: Inventory is actually consumed from on-hand
- When you remove a source: That source becomes available for your other drafts
This helps you avoid accidentally over-allocating the same source across your own drafts — but coordination with your team is still needed if multiple people work on the same recipes.
Understanding the Display
When selecting sources, you'll see clear quantity information:
| Display | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Available | Quantity you can use (prominently displayed) |
| Reserved | Quantity reserved by other drafts |
| Total | Total on-hand quantity |
Example:
- Source has 100 kg on hand
- Draft 1 reserves 40 kg (30 kg Use + 10 kg Waste)
- When creating Draft 2, you'll see: Available: 60 kg | Reserved: 40 kg | Total: 100 kg
Reservations Include Waste
Reservations account for both Use and Waste quantities. If Draft 1 has Use = 20 kg and Waste = 5 kg, the total reservation is 25 kg.
Completing a Draft
When you're ready to finalize production:
- Open your saved draft
- Review your source selections and quantities
- Make any final adjustments
- Click Finish to complete production
Upon completion:
- Reserved quantities are consumed from on-hand inventory
- The draft is removed from your draft list
- Production record is created
Tips & Best Practices
Plan parallel production: Create separate drafts for each mixer or production line, named appropriately (Mixer 1, Mixer 2, etc.) to keep track of which is which.
Check reservations before starting: If you see less Available quantity than expected, check if other drafts have reserved that source.
Remove unused sources: If you change your mind about a source, remove it from the draft to release the reservation for other drafts.
Save frequently: Your draft saves your work, so save often — especially before stepping away or switching tasks.
Troubleshooting
"Why is my Available quantity lower than expected?"
- Another draft (yours or from a previous session) may have reserved that source
- Check your other drafts or delete unused drafts to release reservations
"Why can't I click Finish?"
- Check for validation errors (red fields)
- Ensure all required inputs have sources selected
- Verify Use values don't exceed Available quantities
"My variance value reset after reopening"
- This was a known issue that has been fixed
- If you experience this, try refreshing the page.
"Source is not available"
- If you don't see a source anymore that means it's completely reserved by other drafts
- Complete or delete other drafts to release the reservation, or choose a different source
